Hazel Mack's maiden name was Hazel Godwin. In this correspondence she will refer to herself by that name, for Swanberg is questioning her about events that occurred before she was married. Mack's letter to Westlake expresses her reaction to Swanberg's biography of Theodore Dreiser.
