Committee to Protect the Constitution.

Hide Profile

The Committee to Protect the Constitution was formed in Iowa as a non-partisan organization in August 1980. Its goal was to defeat a November 4, 1980 ballot proposal to hold a convention to revise the Iowa Constitution in order to add the Stanley amendment which would limit income tax increases. The Committee opposed the Stanley amendment, which they claimed was more extreme than other tax limitation laws. During its campaign, the Committee worked with other Iowa organizations such as the Iowa Taxpayer's Association, Iowans for Tax Relief, and the League of Women Voters.
