Beacon Universalist Parish (Brookline, Mass.)

The Fifth Universalist Society in Boston was established in 1836. In 1863 it was joined by the Church of the Paternity (South Universalist Church) and became the Shawmut Universalist Society. Under the leadership of the Rev. George L. Perin, the church developed a range of philanthropic programs in the 1890s and was popularly known as the Every-Day Church. In 1904 it moved to Brookline, Mass. and was joined by the Brookline Universalist Parish, which dated from 1891. In 1905 the name was changed to Beacon Universalist Parish. In 1941 the church became affiliated with the First Universalist Society in Waltham, Mass. A full merger with the Waltham church was completed in 1943.
