Student organization.
Founded in 1926 as the "Boston College Chemical Academy" by Dean of Chemistry Arthur J. Holman, SJ, and affiliated with the American Chemical Society as a student chapter, the Chemical Society's purpose was to stimulate student interest in chemistry through various extracurricular activities, primarily lectures. The organization went through periods of inactivity and a number of name changes, including "Chemistry Seminar", "Chemist's Club", and "Boston College Student Affiliate Chapter of the American Chemical Society" or the "Affiliates." It was re-established in 1949 as the "Boston College Chemical Society" and remained active under this name until the 1970s. After a period of inactivity, the organization reappeared as the "Chemistry Caucus" in the 1980s.
