Charles Connaghan obtained his B.A. (1959) and M.A. (1960) in psychology from the University of British Columbia. After working in industrial relations for a number of years he became Vice-President of Administrative Services in 1975 and served in this capacity until 1980. Connaghan also participated in the Council for Canadian Unity and the Task Force on Canadian Unity. The Council began in 1964 as a non-profit, non-partisan organization devoted to promoting a better understanding and appreciation of this country amongst all Canadians. The Task Force was established in 1977 and spent almost a year holding meetings across the country in support of various groups dedicated to the cause of Canadian unity.
