University of Massachusetts at Boston. Faculty Staff Union.

Hide Profile

Clare Sheridan, a College of Public and Community Service librarian at UMass/Boston, was one of the early participants in the drive to unionize UMass/Boston faculty, librarians, and non-supervisory professional staff. The drive began in late 1974, and by mid-1975 the proposed union called itself the Faculty Staff Union. Although the constituents were somewhat different, UMass/ Boston unionizers cooperated with the emerging Massachusetts Society of Professors at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Both unions affiliated with the Massachusetts Teachers Association/National Education Association and together form the bargaining unit for both campuses.
