Peabody Library Association of Georgetown.
George Peabody gave money to establish a library for the citizens of Georgetown in 1867. By 1875 the library was established in the old Curtis School. When the Georgetown Regional Library was built in 1935, the Peabody Collection was moved there. It became a special non-circulating and reference collection devoted to Georgetown and its history. In 1979, the remaining trustees turned the Trust over to the DC Public Library. In 1997, the DC Public Library hired the first professionally trained archivist and librarian to oversee the preservation and ordering of the collection.
