Sigma Xi is a national, chapter-based honor society founded in 1886 and dedicated to the advancement of science and engineering. Its member scientists and engineers are employed throughout industry and academia. It advocates for outstanding science programs, supports a collegial and supportive environment, fosters integrity in science and engineering, and promotes the public's understanding of science. Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society, Pennsylvania State University Chapter, was founded in 1930 by faculty members in the field of scientific research. The scientific research society's first president was Dean R. L. Sackett. The society held scientific meetings, fostered fraternal relations between scientific workers, encouraged the publication of scientific works, and supports fellowships in science research. The society offers membership to all students who show promise in the field of scientific research.
