Women's Library Association(WLA) was established in 1956 as the Women's Committee of the University of Denver to raise funds and acquire book and archival collections for Penrose Library, University of Denver. In 1958, the organization name changed to Women's Committee for the Library also known as the Women's Library Committee. In 1965, Women's Library Committee was renamed the Women's Library Association and established an independent organization with its own bylaws and executive board. Under the early leadership of Marion Gottesfeld and Peg Bradford, both University trustees, the organization became a source of support for the library. The Association's fundraising events include the Art and Antique Auction, the Bargain Bazaar, Mansions in Miniature, Edward S. Curtis Photography Exhibit (1975), the WLA cookbook entitled, A stirring experience, and the annual book sale.
