Fairmont Creamery Company was founded in 1884, and established local plants in towns throughout the midwestern states. The Moorhead plant was constructed in 1923, and was devoted largely to poultry processing, butter, cream, and milk production and distribution. The operation in Moorhead existed until 1980, when Fairmont Foods Company divested its creameries. Cass-Clay Cooperative Creamery Association purchased the plant, but sold it in 1982.
