Lieutenant General (LTG) Claude M. Kicklighter was born in Glenville, Georgia. He was commissioned into the U.S. Army through ROTC at Mercer University. Kicklighter went into artillery in October 1955 and then began quartermaster training in September 1957. He served two tours in Vietnam. From February 1966 to February 1967, he was with the 1st Logistical Command, and from August 1970 to August 1971, he served as the G-4 with the 101st Airborne Division.
Kicklighter served as commanding general of the 25th Infantry Division from 1984-1986; assistant deputy chief of staff for logistics, U.S. Army from 1986-1987; and director of the Army staff, office of the chief of staff, U.S. Army from 1987 to 1989. Throughout his career, Kicklighter furthered his education at the following schools: the U.S Army Artillery and Guided Missle School, the U.S. Army Quartermaster School, the U.S. Army Air Defense School, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Kicklighter retired 1 September 1991.
