Biography of Langdon Elsbree

Langdon Elsbree was a professor at Claremont McKenna College for over 30 years. He taught Literature focusing in 19th and 20th century British and American literature. In addition to numerous articles, Professor Elsbree is well known for helping to edit six editions of Heath's College Handbook of Composition as well as co-authoring Heath's Brief Guide to Rhetoric with Fredrick Bracher, 1972 and Heath's Brief Handbook of Usage with Fredrick Bracher and Nell Altizer, 1977. Professor Elsbree had a lifelong fascination with ritual with led him to spend over 40 years photographing rituals. His photographs were exhibited in 2000 at Claremont Community Foundation. Further he wrote two books on the subject; The Rituals of Life: Patterns and Narratives, 1982 and Ritual Passages and Narrative Structures, 1991. Professor Elsbree retired from Claremont McKenna College in 1994.
