Rolland Maybee (1901-1976) was born in Ypsilanti (Mich.) on Jan. 6, 1901. He attended Western Michigan University and Columbia University, where he earned his A.B., M.A., and Ph. D. degrees in history. In 1922 Maybee came to Central Michigan University. He was promoted to professor rank in 1942. Maybee served as chairman of the Dept. of Social Studies, 1946-1960. He then devoted himself full time to teaching. Maybee was active in community affairs, and a member of the Mount Pleasant Kiwanis Club and the Presbyterian Church. He married Myrtle Maybee, with whom he had a son, Richard. Prof. Maybee died on June 10, 1976 in Fla. (Information from his obituary, 1976). His papers and copies of his books are in the Clarke Historical Library.
