Francis de Zulueta, 1878-1958
Francis de Zulueta (1878-1958) was the son of Senor Don Pedro de Zulueta, sometime Secretary of the Spanish Embassy in London, and Laura Mary Sheil, daughter of Sir Justin Sheil, KCB. He graduated from New College, Oxford, c 1902, and after fellowships in several of the Oxford Colleges, became Regius Professor of Law at All Souls College, Oxford, 1919-1948. He received honorary doctorates from the University of Aberdeen and the University of Paris.
He specialised in, and published several works on, ancient Roman law, including Patronage in the Later Empire, Oxford studies in social and legal history, 1 (Oxford, 1909); The Liber Pauperum of Vacarius, Selden Society Publications, 44 (London: Quaritch, 1927); The Roman Law of Sale (Oxford: Clarendon, 1945); and Institutes of Gaius (Oxford: Clarendon, 1946).
