Singing Horse Press was founded in 1974 by Gil Ott in Philadelphia and Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, as a forum initially for local poets but ultimately for both national and international poets to publish their work. One of its publications was the magazine entitled Paper Air (it ran from 1976-1990), which featured the forerunners of contemporary American poetry and poetic theory, as well as "cross-cultural" issues of contemporary French, Japanese, and British poets.
