Dunne, Marie Aloysia, 1882-1924.

Author, lecturer, and educator, Marie Aloysia Dunne was born October 8, 1882, in Chicago, IL, the eldest child of Stephen Henry and ellen (Madigan) Dunne. She graduated from the Sacred Heart Academy in 1896 and went on to attend the Chicago Normal School for teachers, graduating in 897. She received her Ph. B. from the University of Chicago in 1910 and her Master's degree from DePaul University in 1912. Marie Aloysia worked in the Chicago Public Schools, first teaching at Hanson Park School before being promoted to assistant principal at the Henry D. Lloyd School. In 1908 she became the principal of Alfred Nobel Public School, a position she retained until her death in 1924. In addition to teaching, Marie Aloysia was a prolific writer translating the Life of Pierre Olivaint by Charles Clair and contributing articles and poems to the New World, Rosary Magazine, Magnificat, and American Catholic Quarterly Review. Marie Aloysia Dunne passed away on August 7, 1924.
