Clarence Peter Kline (1876-1970) taught school from the late 1890s until after World War II, mainly in Tuscola County (MI). He and his wife, Mary, attended classes at CMNS during the 1920s. Together they had a daughter, Pauline Eliza (Kline) Venzke (1911-2005). Pauline earned a three-year degree from CMNS around 1932. Probably during the late 1940s and definitely during the early 1950s, Clarence taught chemistry, and probably also physics, laboratory classes at CMNS. Paul Venzke, the donor, son of Pauline and grandson of Clarence, visited his grandfather in 1952 when Clarence conducted a chemistry laboratory at CMNS. At the time, Clarence was substituting for a faculty member on leave, and taught for a few quarter terms. Paul remembered that his grandfather did not study or teach calculus. (This information is from Paul Venzke, Professor Emeritus of Minot, N. D., via an email of April 28, 2008 with Clarke staff.)
