William W. Wilcox, U.S. Air Force officer, was commander of the 81st Bombardment Squadron, 9th Air Force, engaged in desert combat in the Middle East in 1942. The next year he commanded the 12th Bombardment Group, 12th Air Force, participating in campaigns in Italy, followed by action in the China-India-Burma Theater. During the 1950s he was commander, 581st Air Resupply Group, then the 322nd Troop Carrier Squadron on Okinawa. In 1957 he began various assignments with the Strategic Air Command (SAC): deputy commander, 55th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing; commander of the 90th Bombardment Wing, 4080th Reconnaissance Wing, and 4130th Strategic Wing; and chief, Operations and Training Division, SAC HQ. In 1963 he assumed command of the 4th Air Division of B-52 jet bombers. He retired in 1968.
