Allen Publishing Company

Hide Profile

George Albert Allen, born in Chicago, Illinois, on 7 June 1894 had a passion for birds, especially game birds and pheasants. After moving to Utah, Allen, a medical doctor, and his wife began breeding game birds and importing exotic birds from all over the world. In the 1940s, the Allens began publishing a newsletter devoted to aviculture, the breeding, raising, and caring of birds. Out of the grew the Allen Publishing Company. They started the company in 1952 when interest in raising game birds was spreading rapidly. They decided something more than a newsletter was needed and introduced the first issue of the Pheasant Fanciers, Game Bird Breeders, and Aviculture's Gazette . After George Allen's death in 1961, responsibility for the publication company was transferred to a son, George Jr.
