Woodside, William S.

William S. Woodside recieved a MA in economics from Harvard University in 1950 and began working as an economist for American Can Company. In 1975 he was elected president and chief operating officer of American Can Company, and from 1980 to 1986 he was chairman and chief executive officer. He oversaw the transformation of American Can Company from a traditional manufacturing corporation to a financial services and specialty retailing firm in the early 1980s. American Can Company merged with Primerica in 1988. Woodside retired in 1989.
