Newport, John, 1824-
Came to Illinois in 1854 from Ohio and taught school for a number of years in various towns. Moved to Montgomery County in 1868 living in Bois d'Arc until 1891 when he moved to Farmington where he was a Justice of the Peace, a promoter of a coal mine for the town and involved in Republican politics. He was married to Elizabeth McCormick of Kentucky.
