This portfolio resulted from the Missoula Art Museum's invitation to Americn Indian artists to participate in a limited edition print project and traveling exhibition. 2005 was the Bicentennial Commemoration of the Lewis and Clark expedition, one of the precipitating events for the exhibit. The native prople who encountered Lewis and Clark, and their descendents, have a perspective on this event that is quite different from that of most American citizens. Corwin Clairmont, a Salish and Kootenai tribal member and art instructor at the Salish Kootenai College on the Flathead Reservation in western Montana, acted as co-curator on the project. He writes, "The print venue provides an opportunity to present a point of view that is often over-looked and may be in direct contrast with the celebratory mood of many Lewis and Clark admirers".
