Started in 1959, Ford Motor Credit Company (FMCC) was the financial services subsidiary of Ford Motor Company. Formerly, retail and dealer financing had been offered by its predecessor, Universal Credit Corporation. Operating in over thirty-six countries, Ford Motor Credit Company specialized in providing consumer automobile loans and leasing plans. It also offered vehicle-financing programs to commercial customers including leasing companies, rental companies, municipalities, and fleet customers; wholesale financing, capital loans, and mortgages to dealers; and extended warranties and automobile insurance.
