Abby Keith Brown was born in 1820 in Sheldon, Vermont, the daughter of Oliver Allen Keith (b. June 27, 1783) and Martha Brooks (dates?) who were married February 10, 1819 . She married Amasa Merriman Brown November 21, 1841, in Sheldon. Amasa Brown was born in Canada, graduated from the Dartmouth Medical School in 1840, and settled in Sheldon that same year. He held a number of positions in the community and was elected to the Vermont General Assembly in 1854. He was also a physician for forty years.
The Browns had five children: Sarah Elizabeth (b. February 15, 1843), Oliver Keith (b. July 28, 1845), Martha Caroline (b. January 22, 1850), Edwin Merriman (December 5, 1855-February. 5, 1935); and Alfred Keith (May 14, 1858-November. 21, 1896). Edwin Merriman Brown married Fannie L. Comings (1859-1941) of Berkshire on October 6, 1881. Their son, Fred Comings Brown (1884-1955), and Lucy Holmes (d. 1918) were parents of Carolyn Brown (1915- ), who married William North.
