Moosmann was born in London on May 1, 1884, and came to New York with his family in 1897. He went to work as an office boy for the Laflin & Rand Powder Company in New York City in 1899 and for seven years was secretary to J. Amory Haskell, president of Laflin & Rand. Laflin & Rand was purchased by Du Pont in 1902, and Haskell became Vice President in charge of the Sales Department and later of the Smokeless Powder Department.
While still secretary to Haskell, Moosmann handled sales of commercial nitrocellulose and solvents from the Parlin, N.J. plant. In 1911 these activities were transferred to the Chemical Products Division of the Sales Department, and Moosmann was made Sales Manager. He became Assistant Manager of the Chemical Products Division in 1923 and Manager in 1925. Moosmann was responsible for marketing Duco, a pyroxylin lacquer which was used for automobile finishes. He had a part in the development of Du Pont's business in modern finishes, coated fabrics and many chemical specialties. He became Assistant General Manager of the Fabrics & Finishes Department in November 1928 and retired from the Du Pont Company in 1946.
