Rose Kuper was a student at the Hans Hofmann School of Fine Arts in the late 1930s. Her husband, Theodore Kuper, translated Hofmann's lectures from German.

The Hans Hofmann School of Fine Arts began in 1915, in Munich. In 1933 because of political unrest, Hofmann moved his school to New York City. and a summer program was started in 1935, in Provincetown, Mass. In 1958, Hofmann closed his schools to paint and draw full time. Hans Hofmann died Feb. 17, 1966 in New York City.
