Mario Pavone was born in Acri, Cosenza (Calabria), and came to the United States in 1954. In Nutley, New Jersey, he joined Nuovo Spirito Lodge #1862 and became active in the Orphans' Home of the New Jersey Grand Lodge. Originally called the Mazzini Orphanage, it was completed in Nutley in 1923. As a member of the Orphans' Home Commission, Pavone attempted to raise fund to support the orphange, but it was closed in 1970.
