David Martin (original name Ludwig Detsinyi) was born in Hungary in 1915. He moved to England in 1938 where he worked as editor of the Reynolds News and as a correspondent for the Daily Express and the BBC. In 1948 he travelled to India as British correspondent for the Daily Express. In 1949 he moved to Australia where he initially worked as a freelance journalist and editor of The Australian Jewish News. He went on to establish a reputation for himself in the literary field, working as an author, poet, journalist, editor, literary reviewer and playwright. He published a number of works in a variety of genres, produced weekly current affairs columns and contributed articles, literary reviews and short stories on a wide range of topics to newspapers and journals.
