Ignacio Stafford studied at the English College in Valladolid and joined the Society of Jesus in 1618. He taught mathematics at St. Antony's College in Lisbon for eight years, where he also served as the confessor to the English Catholics resident there. His Elementos mathematicos was published in 1634. His Historia de la celestial vocacion....del padre Marcelo Franco Mastrili, who was martyred in Japan in 1637, was published in Portuguese in 1641 and soon after translated into French and Italian.
