American Lutheran Church (1961-1987). Joint Union Committee.
The Joint Union Committee was created to explore the possibility of merging the American Lutheran Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church, and the United Evangelical Lutheran Church into the American Lutheran Church. Although the group was not officially formed until 1951, preliminary meetings were held beginning in 1949.
