George Washington Myers was born July 1, 1842, in Bloomingdale (Van Buren County, Mich.). At the age of 21, he enlisted in Company H of the 13th Michigan Infantry to fight in the Civil War. He mustered in on Feb. 26, 1864 and obtained the rank of corporal on Apr. 1, 1865. He mustered out at Louisville, Ken. on July 26, 1865. On Apr. 3, 1867, he married Nancy Jones Breed and they had 6 children. He had a brief career as a public servant. He was elected county clerk for Van Buren County from 1885 to 1888. He died at the age of 82 on Jan. 7, 1924, in Roselle, N.J.
