Catherine I.M. Hastie, MBE (1957), was born in 1906. She was educated in Glasgow, Scotland, at the Girls' High School and Glasgow University.
In 1946 Hastie joined the Colonial Service in Uganda as a Welfare Officer. She was appointed to the post of Assistant Commissioner (for women's community development) in 1957, and became an Adviser to women's community development in 1959.
