UCSD office responsible for oversight of four ecological reserve sites in San Diego County. The office was formally established in 1965 and renamed to its current name in 1983. It was established as part of the University of California Natural Land and Water Reserves System, which was created to preserve, protect, and study the native terrestrial, riparian, and marine habitats of California. Kenneth Norris, professor of Zoology at UC Santa Cruz, was the founding chair.
