Murphy, Donald M., 1925-2007

Murphy (1925-2007) was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He applied for early induction in the Army on his eighteenth birthday and served as a radio operator with the 92nd Division, 1st Army in Europe during World War II. In 1945, he participated in the liberation of the Flossenburg concentration camp. After V-E Day, Murphy returned to the U.S. for amphibious training and was redeployed to Japan, arriving shortly after the atomic bomb was dropped. Following the war, he attended the University of Wisconsin, majoring in biochemistry. Murphy resided in Madison, Wisconsin until his death in 2007.
