Weil, John W. (John William), 1937-2009.

John Weil was born in Baltimore, Md. on April 11, 1937 and moved to Charlotte, N.C. as a child. He learned computer technology when computers were first being developed and later worked for IBM. In 1966 he co-founded Systems Associates, Inc., a company that developed software programs for hospitals and clinics. He was also known for his world travels, nature photography, and an interest in genealogy. He married Anne Ballenger and had three children, Nina, Christian, and Russ. He recorded journals as a form of therapy in dealing with his addiction to alcohol.

Systems Associates, Inc. was founded in 1966. The company went public in 1983 and became of the nation's leading software providers for hospitals and clinics. Systems Associates, Inc. was sold to American Express Information Services in 1987.
