Raymond M. Zelina was born in Ohio on January 22, 1924 and enlisted in the Army at Cleveland on January 20, 1943. At the time of his enlistment he was unmarried, had completed four years of high school, and working in a machine shop. Zelina joined the 605th Field Artillery Battalion (Pack) at Camp Carson, Colo. where he was assigned to Headquarters, and later served with Battery A. He joined the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colo. when his battalion became attached to the Divsion at Camp Hale, Colo. Zelina also served at Camp Swift, Tex. and in Italy. During combat operations near Sassomolare, he was awared the Bronze Star medal for his actions on March 2, 1945. Zelina died in Leesburg, Fla. on December 30, 2009.
