Smith family.
The Smith family in Fairfield and the surrounding area dates from the mid-17th century, starting with Giles Smith. His great-grandson Horace (1823-1900) married Elizabeth Couch (1830-1905) in 1850. They had five children: Eli Couch Smith, Horace Winfield Smith, Daniel Truman Smith, Eveline Matilda Smith and Chary Couch Smith.
