Chase, Sydney Octavius, 1860-1941

Sydney Octavius Chase and his brother, Joshua Coffin Chase, were born in Germantown, Pennsylvania. Sydney Chase arrived in Sanford, Florida, in 1878 and was employed by Henry Sanford. He later formed Chase & Company, a fruit shipping company and was joined by Joshua in 1884. They expanded their business into grove acreage, insurance, railroads, banking, and the growing of celery.
