Hooke, William, 1600 or 1601-1678
Variant namesWilliam Hooke was a Protestant clergyman and domestic chaplain to Oliver Cromwell. He was born in London and graduated from Oxford, and spent several years in New England as a pastor. He returned to England in 1656, becoming the domestic chaplain and advisor for his friend Oliver Cromwell and running the Savoy hospital. He remained an advisor to Cromwell's son Richard until the collapse of the Protectorate. He published several tracts and sermons.
