Variant namesMary G. Otis was the daughter of Thomas and Susannah J. (Sherman) Otis of New Bedford, Massachusetts. She was born in 1847 and later married James H. Sherman . Her grandfather, Daniel Otis, was a Quaker until 1830, when he became an adherent of Theodore Parker.
