The Task Force was founded in 1985 for the benefit of people living with AIDS in the vicinity of Winston-Salem (Forsyth Co.), N.C. by members of Aware, a gay organization. The organization provided services at no cost, such as support groups, temporary housing, emergency financial assistance, and community education regarding the disease, until they ceased operation in 1997.
