Owen, Robert L., 1940-

Born in Newtown, Great Britain 1771, died in Newtown 1858; cooperator and utopian socialist; made name as an educational philanthropist during his management of the industrial community New Lanark, Scotland; agitated for factory reform; founded New Harmony, a communitarian experiment in the USA 1825-1828; back in Britain launched the National Equitable Labour Exchange in 1832, the Grand National Consolidated Trades Union in 1834 and the Association of All Classes of All Nations in 1835; continued promoting the foundation of communities through his organs The Crisis 1832 and The New Moral World 1834 and through his organizations, e.g. the Universal Community Society of Rational Religionists (R̀ational Society') 1839 and the Home Colonisation Society 1841.

Emyr Wyn (Gwynne) Jones, O.B.E., M.D., LL.D., F.R.C.P., F.S.A. was born at Waunfawr, Caernarfonshire in 1907. He graduated from Liverpool University with a First Class Honours in Medicine and Surgery in 1928. He married Enid Williams in 1936 and had two children, Carys Wyn and Richard Gareth Wyn. Dr. Emyr Wyn Jones was associated with the Royal Liverpool Infirmary since his graduation in 1928; as Resident, Clinical Assistant and Senior Medical Registrar. Since 1935 he was a member of the consultant staff of the Liverpool Teaching Hospitals and of the Royal Infirmary from 1938 until his retirement in 1972. He was elected fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, April 1949. He was a member of the Court of the National Library of Wales, the National Museum of Wales, the University of Wales, and the University College of North Wales. He also took an active role within the National Eisteddfod of Wales. From 1947-1948 he was the High Sheriff of the county of Caernarfon. In 1971 he was awarded the O.B.E. He died in 1999.

Robert Owen (1885-1962), better known as Bob Owen Croesor of Llanfrothen in Merioneth, was a quarry worker at Croesor, an antiquary, book-collector, radio broadcaster and lecturer with the Workers Educational Association.
