Sargent, Van Buren Whipple., b. 1845
Van Buren Whipple Sargent served with Company F of the 27th Iowa Infantry during the Civil War. At the time of his enlistment he was living with his parents near Yankee Settlement in Delaware County, Iowa. After the war he lived in Fonda, Iowa (Pocahontas County). In the mid 1920s he wrote these reminiscences based on his memory and letters written to his parents during the war which his mother had saved.
