R. Edward Baur was a conservationist who lived near Van Meter, Iowa. He attended Iowa State University in the late 1920s but did not receive a degree. Baur was president of the Iowa Soil Conservation District Commission from 1951-1954. He was also instrumental in forming a soil conservation recognition program conducted by the Des Moines Register and Tribune for 20 years. Active in farm credit issues, Baur served on the board of directors of the Farm Credit Banks of Omaha, Nebraska.
