Elnathan Scofield (1773-1841), originally of Connecticut, removed to Lancaster, Ohio in 1802 as a surveyor. Throughout his life, Scofield had a variety of occupations, including running a dry goods store, County Surveyor and Justice of the Peace, terms in both branches of the Ohio legislature, postmaster of Lancaster, associate judge in the Court of Common Pleas of Fairfield County, and serving as Captain in the Ohio Militia.
