Croom, Hardy Bryan, 1798-1837.
Hardy Bryan Croom, native of N.C., was a botanist and Florida planter. In 1834, the land granted to General Lafayette for his efforts in the Revolutionary War was sold by his heirs & purchased by Hardy Bryan Croom; Croom's brother, Bryan H. Croom also purchased extensively in the Leon County & Gadsden County areas. Croom died with his family in the wreck of the Steamer "Home" south of Cape Hatteras in 1837.
