Harding, Elisha Jenkins, 1828-1897
Variant namesCaptain with Company A, 1st Oregon Volunteer Cavalry, stationed at Fort Walla Walla, W.T., during the Civil War; came West durng the California gold rush in 1849 and then to Oregon in 1851, settling near Salem. During the Indian Wars recruited a company of volunteers in 1856 which eventually became part of First Cavalry Oregon Volunteers. After the war served in several Marion County, Ore., government positions and also invested in real estate.
