Meriwether Lewis Clark (1809-1881), eldest son of Gen. William Clark, graduated from West Point in 1830, served as a colonel in the Illinois Volunteers in the Black Hawk War, 1832, and resigned in 1833. He served in the Mexican War with the Missouri Volunteers, 1846-47, and became United States surveyor general for Missouri, 1848-53. He fought for the South during the Civil War and resided in Kentucky until his death in 1881.
