The office of Mission Secretary was created in 1919. Those who served in this position included the Rev. Hans Martin Saeterlie, 1919-1928; Dr. John Einar Gronli, 1928-1946; and the Rev. Rolf Arthur Syrdal, 1947-1960. When the merger occurred that created The American Lutheran Church (TALC) Rev. Syrdal became the Executive Director of its Board of World Missions.
