Edmund Gustav Schildknecht was born in Chicago in 1899. He studied at the Wisconsin School of Art and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He taught at the Arsenal Technology School, and the John Herron Art School. He is considered a contemporary artist. Many of his works are on exhibit at the University of Maine, Orono.
